Jalloh Studios is a community and resource hub for Black women creators building their creative careers. Our mission is to create safe spaces where sisterhood is formed, knowledge is shared, and collaboration is encouraged. Our members love Jalloh Studios because we value what affirms the voices, power and wellbeing of Black women creatives.
OUR STORY
Jalloh Studios was born in the Summer of 2019 after founder Mariama Jalloh completed a fellowship in Brooklyn working in between a theatre and museum. Her time at these two institutions opened her eyes up to the disparities that existed between white and Black creative organizations. Additionally, as a Black woman creative trying to tap into the creative community in NYC, Mariama witnessed first hand how elitism and an unwillingness to share resources made it difficult for growing creatives to feel welcome, build their network, and find support.
Mariama believes that collaboration, access to resources and knowledge, and relationships that go beyond the surface not only make creative spaces more enriching but are also necessary for creative growth. Jalloh Studios tackles these issues head on and invites Black woman creators to join her in creating a community that breaks down barriers.
In addition to being the founder, Mariama curates all content for social media. From sourcing photos, to designing graphics, she oversees content strategy.
